Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day. November.

November is the month when all the season meet in an unlikely collocation in the   garden .   We still have summer roses , ( do n’t worry I ’m not get going to jog Sally Holmes out again , but she is still start strong , as isRosa mutabilis . ) There are still pinks , as the late floweringDianthus rupicolais   go for on . Other summer prime are dotted about the garden .

In the shade , an unassuming little works   is quietly spreading . Reineckia carneadoesn’t have very showy flowers but they are very welcome in the autumn when everything else is winding down .

Reineckia carnea

People are surprised to see snowdrops in autumn but they are are blooming at the right meter . Galanthus reginae - olgaehas been and give way , or it would have done , if slugs had n’t cautiously removed all the efflorescence before I fuck off to see them . They   thoughtfully   exit the stems so that I could count how many had been eaten . Never mind , we still haveGalanthuselwesii‘Barnes ’ to revel . At least I do , the Pianist would n’t notice   a Anemone quinquefolia even if it jumped up and bit him on the nose .

Christina atMy Hesperides Gardenrecently showed her magnificentArbutus unedo . I long for mine to look like hers , although it believably never will , as this tree is intimately suited to her climate . Still I am revel the clusters of little lily - of -the -valley flowers .

wintertime flowers are flourish now . I recently showed myMahonia‘Charity , which always starts blossom in November . Winter unfolding jasmine , Jasminum nudiflorumis a real winter bloomer . I was very surprised to seeHelleborus nigerin full efflorescence too .

The wintertime floweringViburnum bodnantense‘Dawn ’ smells delicious . It is full of efflorescence this year , as is everyone else ’s .

My most lusciously fragrant plant at the moment is my newly gain , lemon- scentedMagnoliagrandiflora‘Little Gem ’ . I have been wanting aMagnolia grandiflorafor historic period , but I hesitated because it grows so big , it takes year to flower and it needs a sheltered view and I could n’t think where I could put one . When I take about ‘ Little Gem ’ , I ordered one , because two of the problem were solved . It is nice and summary and it prime at an early geezerhood . Indeed , it already has two scrumptious waxy heyday . I still have n’t solved the trouble of where to plant it , so it sits in the nursery at the moment , whilst I opine how to conjure up a protective south face paries .

Thanks for the entropy about your new Magnolia , I think I have just the space for a pocket-sized one , so must get search .

You have so many marvelous efflorescence I bid I could mature , like the Coronilla . I have n’t tried maturate florists' chrysanthemum in year but I do escape their flowers this time of year ( even if I ’ve never cared for their leafage ) but they need a lot of H2O and they usually fry during our summertime heatwaves so they plausibly wo n’t terminate up on my must - have list . I hope Magnolia ‘ Little Gem ’ works for you – I lie with the M. grandiflora I inherit with the sign , although I ’d need a very grandiloquent ladder or a stroll along the ceiling to see the flowers close - up , much less to smell them .

Your first sentence , “ November is the month when all the seasons meet in an unlikely juxtaposition in the garden . ” is so true and your blossom illustrate it beautifully ! praise on your ‘ lilliputian Gem ’ attainment ! I also longed for a Magnolia grandiflora and finally planted a M. grandiflora ‘ Teddy Bear ’ which only reaches 20 foot , not that I have space for even that . However , those beautiful evergreen plant depart with the reddish indumentum look so nice for Christmas decorating that if it ever gets too big it can be trimmed back . You ’ve got so many smasher in your garden and are , as always , the queen mole rat of Anemone quinquefolia !

magnolia in the fall – wow ! You ’re proper – all the season are coming together in your garden this time of year . Mine is about to go dormant with dusty winter temperatures . I ca n’t kick , though , because normally it would happen much earlier than this . Happy GBBD !

So many flower in bloom in your November garden , Chloris!Great photos !

Chryanthmum ‘ Chelsea Physic Garden ’ brings me justly back to my childhood . This looks exactly like one in my mothers garden – several moves ago . I have always had an eye out to buy one but never have seen one before ! It would go with my decor very well .

I ’m glad to hear that Sally Holmes is still make her own on the hockey playing fields of November . I ’m covet your chrysanths Chloris and conceive that they could well become the fresh dahlia .

A beautiful mix of flowers and foliage . I specially bed the mums … so many coloration to keep the bloom garden going into downfall . I must rule a way for some to keep going in my garden . And Galanthus elwesii still blooming … wow !

I ’d always thought that wood anemone flowered in late winter but you ’re veracious , mine are up and beginning to flower now . I ’m also question why my V. bod ‘ break of day ’ ( yes , strangle in flowers ) is flowering white and not pink this twelvemonth . It ’s always been pink in the past . Perhaps a stale snap will further it to change colour ?
