‘ amber Bar ’ miscanthus ( Miscanthussinensis‘Gold Bar ’ , USDA Hardiness Zones 5 - 8) is a thickset miscanthus developed by Joy Creek Nursery in Scappoose , Oregon . Its heavily banded blades add DOE and verve to a garden planting without being a toughie to its neighbor . It prefers full sun and moist , well - drained soil , and may eventually top out at 4 to 5 foot tall . This photo was have at the West Tenessee Research and Education Center in Jackson , Tennessee .
