Looking Back at an Old Garden

What worked in a Michigan garden

Today Joe is sharing his former garden with us .

This was the garden I made over a ten ago at the first theatre I ever owned , in fundamental Michigan .

This is how it bug out — not much there , and the house want a lot of work too . It was fun starting with a blank slate , but so much employment .

A year later , the house was looking better , but I still a wad to do with the gardening .

A big mass ofCampanulacarpatica(Zones 4–9 ) front amazing and blossom nearly around-the-clock . But these turned out to be very shortly - live perennials , and faded away .

I lovebulbs , so lots oftulipsanddaffodilsadded color to the front garden in the spring .

In a shaded part of the garden , windflowers(Anemoneblanda , Zones 4–8 ) carried on the spring - bulb flower outline .

I institute a lot in these front beds inearly summertime . dim plantingmeans less space for weeds to mature !

A combination I loved was silvery leaves of cardoon(Cynaracardunculus , Zones 5–9 ) , disconsolate hunky-dory leafage of bronze fennel(Foeniculumvulgare , Zones 4–9 ) , and decorative onions(Alliumchristophii , Zones 5–8 ) .

This was n’t contrive . A layer in the back where I put plants I was n’t sure what to do with sometimes looked better than my intentional gardens !
