I recently had the singular experience of “ helping ” a native ally with milking a cow in the nerveless tropical shadows of a forested versant .
It was a great experience .
First thing we did was meet a big bag of mangoes for the cow . Then my friend brought the cow up the hillside from the pasture below and tied her to a tree diagram .
After she was secure , he get up the calfskin and let her start the milk feed by nursing for a bit or so .
Then it was sentence to get some milk . He had me commence pouring out mangoes in front of the moo-cow to keep her happy while he milk her .
She was quite happy .
The cow would take an entire mango in her mouth , jaw it around , then spit out the pit … then do it again . She probably run through about 40lbs during the track of her dawn milking .
After cleaning off the moo-cow ’s udder with light urine and a material , my booster held a small pitcher with hand while he milk with the other .
The reason he does it this way is to keep the milk clean and safe from the cow ’s back hoof . They wish kick back over buckets of Milk River .
After taking a gal and a half , he lease the sura nursemaid until female parent was empty and baby was full .
I ’ve never had much to do with cattle but I was quite impressed by the measure of milk this small - to - mediocre cow delivers daily .
I do n’t think I ’ll go into the dairy business any time soon , however , as I have my hands full simply trying to keep up with my gardens and my book writing .
Where we populate now , luckily , healthy raw milk is available for us any time we require it … and there are noSWAT teams to nurture hell over it .
