For decades , varieties break from species native to Argentina appeared in the flowers and ornamental world market . As representative , we can mention Petunia , Alstroemeria , Calceolaria and Glandularia , among many other species .

For more than 15 geezerhood the Floriculture Institute of INTA ( National Institute of Agricultural Technology ) has been developing cosmetic varieties from Argentine aboriginal species . It is one of the first experience of form maturation with native species from the arena of rootage of those species .

The Institute Field Trial

The summons involves germplasm collection , depiction , domestication , breeding , technical prospect of crops production and marketplace introduction of varieties developed .

As upshot of this enquiry , we develop a new crop from the genus Mecardonia and obtained two variety : ' Yellow Chrosite ' to the Japan market and ' Magic Carpet ' to the United States and Canada markets . These kind have been observe for their well behavior in terms of constant and even ontogenesis and anthesis throughout the summertime , in full sun , specially at mellow temperatures .

Also , we show more than 20 ornamentals variety in Argentina of the genus Mecardonia , Calibrachoa , Handroanthus , Tecoma , Glandularia , Alstroemeria , Nierembergia and fern species such as Phlebodium , Micrograma , Asplenium , and Niphidium . Moreover , we are studying Argentinian native species with low water use of goods and services or water stress electrical resistance such as Portulaca , Senecio , Halophytum , Sclerophilax , Stemodia and Gomphrena , to use in sustainable green cap .

In addition , the Floriculture Institute has made agreements with the provinces where native species are originate , to contain out the aforementioned work , following the universal objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity ( CBD ) , such as the preservation of biodiversity , the sustainable use of its component and the fair and just sharing of the benefits resulting from the employment of genetic resource , these latter aspects peculiarly mull over in Nagoya Protocol . The provinces have the authority to get at and use inherited resources , according to the Constitution of Argentina .
