Shiver, Sweat, Swat

The past month certainly lived up to Central Texas ’s reputation of zooming through all four seasons in 48 hour . “ Gloves or mosquito repellent ? ” we postulate each other as the CTG team headed out to garden . To up the weather challenge ante , as in this Hutto garden , sun and clouds swapped control within seconds for a photographic camera colour equilibrium shuffle . Sometimes we ran for binding as rain suddenly bucketed . Or , it was flat out misty chilly , tempting raging tea and a cozy mantle . Still , the refreshful conditions energized us , as in this garden where new plant are growing into a design that controls corrosion with a ironical brook bed in spook . But as one of the team said , “ When we get back , I ’m pouring hot coffee bean over my hand . ”Other times , we exuviate layer . When we tour a garden where this DIY pond is just one of many features , the day embark on so nippy that the nurseryman shoot in for a jumper and we zipped up our jackets . By the time we pack up , we crank up the AC on the vehicle as we headed to the station . In every garden , we ’ve seen how well - adapt plants play along with dramatic conditions swings , especially after months of brutal heat and drought . refresh with gentle spurts of pelting , plant glowed even after dips into the XXX . At the Deep Roots garden , a residential area garden project of Whole Foods , we tap a segment ongrowing microgreens indoors . Along one fencing , I blemish this beautiful example of a wildlife habitat in contrasting Light Within . In the shadiest spot , bloom aboriginal turk ’s caps mask the Ernst Boris Chain connection . Moving closer into sun , there ’s chile pequin , Mexican honeysuckle , lantana , and fall asters . It ’s not too former to found trees , stalwart shrubs and aboriginal perennials like Achillea millefolium , aster , genus Penstemon and coneflowers . On It ’s My Park Day , we get together enthusiastic scholar and interns atAustin Youth River Watchwho planted a squash racquet garden after months of preparation withBat Conservation International . Last Saturday at the Long Center for the Performing Arts , an island of native gamey grama grass , Gaura lindheimeri , and fall aster attract me even as I communicate by in a woolgathering glow after a wizard performance of The Nutcracker . Cinnamon - hue mulch provided courtesy of nearby denuded cypress trees! My tropical sages ( nativeSalvia coccinea ) wail this long , blistering summer , but recreate to carol for the butterfly and bee out and about when December pretends to be spring . This grouping in a part wraith island bottom made it back after wintertime ’s freezes last twelvemonth . And , curbside in the gutter ’s gravel grit thrown from my street , a bluebonnet seed installed itself . What a firm reminder that plants know what they need and proudly display their resilience when they get it .

Thanks for stopping by ! Linda
