Beauty and habitat combined
Today ’s picture are from James Mahar .
We own 21.5 acres in Washington State dedicate to wildlife , including a 20,000 - square - foot stain specifically forpollinators . Here are a few photo .
This expanse is packed with bloom that pollinators love . You do n’t have to opt between agarden that is beautiful and one that is effective for pollinator , because humankind and bees both incline to care the same thing : lots of flowers !

immense masses of black - eyed Susan ( Rudbeckiafulgida , Zones 4–9 ) back up thisgarden pond . Water featuresare not just beautiful but are also expectant forwildlife . bee in special will appreciate the low John Rock at the edge , which allow them to safely get to the pee to drink .
This part of the garden is filled with flowers in shades of pink and purple , including lots of bee balm ( Monardaspecies and hybrids , Zones 4–9 ) . Newer selections ofbee balmtend to be shorter and more compact , pretend them easier to use in many garden , but they are still topped with abundant peak for pollinator .
No pollinator garden is complete without a spell ofmilkweed(Asclepiassyriaca , Zones 3–9 ) , which is of course the criticalhost plantfor Danaus plexippus butterfly . Common milkweed can spread aggressively in small garden , so planting it as it is here at the boundary of a driveway or way can help keep it contain .

Tallconifersmake a fantastic backdrop for the garden , call on it into a lilliputian enclosed promised land .
Planning for a foresighted period of peak helps keep a all-embracing orbit of pollinators fed . Here the mordant - eyed Susan is inpeak blooming ; in front of it , a sight of sedum ( Sedum‘Autumn ‘ Joy ’ , Zones 3–9 ) is covered with flower bud , ready to burst into blooming and keep the pollinator party going .
Joe Pye weed(Eutrochiumpurpureum , Zones 4–9 ) and a Brobdingnagian sunflower ( Helianthusannuus , annual ) offer height , drama , and muckle of food for pollinator .

I wish I could sit in that chair and just soak up this beautiful garden !
